Health Care for the Future

Everyday there are new reports on the need for national health care.  Having been a nurse for 10 years and an advanced practice nurse for four, I feel that most of the talking heads calling for universal care have never looked at our current system.  Yes, our system today is seriously flawed but one has to consider the entire picture and not be blinded by a myopic view of healthcare.  Sixty to 70% of all health care cost goes to the paper work and staffing of those involved in receiving payment for services rendered.  Do we really need to add a governmental body to an already top heavy system? Defensive medicine is ruining health care. I cannot begin to tell you how many patients that I see for anesthesia pre operative preparation that have had pregnancy tests ordered by their primary or emergency physician when the patient has had a hysterectomy.  Ridiculous tests ordered in algorhythm style just to stave off ridiculous law suits that plague the health care system.  The over use of laboratory data and imaging studies is crippling our health care dollars.  We need a less litigious environment for health care while at the same time, we need to better educate nurses entering the nursing field.  We spend so much time teaching defensive nursing in nursing school and how to "chart" that the common sense aspect of nursing care gets pushed to the side.  We do need an overhaul of our health care system.  Let's start with ending non income awards.  Lets free up time in the educational process of healthcare workers from litigious prevention to actual patient care.  Lets let physicians order the tests needed to diagnose and treat patients, and not order tests just because they are worried about liability.

Universal Health Care has nothing to do with stimulus

President Obama keeps trying to convince Americans that universal health care is the key to economic recovery.  That is like saying that if I purchase a movie ticket then my flat tire will spontaneously fix itself.  The two have nothing to do with each other. We are smarter that this and yet he keeps saying over and over again that the key to economic recovery is embedded in universal health care. This is not a plan for recovery, this is an agenda.  If you say something over and over again, it does not make it so, and if it does, then I'm going to start a mantra that my student loans are already paid off.

Welfare recipient duties

The American public is outraged at the bonuses received by AIG executives.  These are the bonuses that the present administration all but guaranteed less than a month ago behind closed doors.  Americans feel that they own AIG because, basically we do! We are funding their company. So where is the outrage over welfare recipients? Are we not their employers? Do we not fund their lives 100%? We only own 80% of AIG and yet people are threatening those that received bonuses.  If I employ 100% of American welfare recipients, then I think we should have the cleanest nation in the world.  I think every recipient of any form of government assistance should be out picking up trash or doing some form of community service.  How about mandatory military service for any recipient? The military needs people to cook and clean, that would free up our young men and women doing these tedious tasks to do more important things like DEFENDING OUR FREEDOM AND THE RIGHTS OF THOSE THAT ARE OUTRAGED OVER AIG EXECUTIVES!

Taxing health care benefits

Ok. What in the heck is Mr. Obama thinking? I mean really.  The very thing that he castigated Sen. McCain for, he is embrasing and touting as such a wonderful plan.  Has this man ever had an original thought? I think, no.  He has backtracked on pretty much everything on which he campaigned.  He said in his debate with Ms. Clinton that he would not unduly tax Americans to the point that would our children would have to pay for our problems or borrow from China.  Let's see, Mr. Obama, isn't that exactly what your new "stimulus" does? Yes! Yes, it does! And now his great plan is to tax the health care benefits of those of us that worked VERY hard to excel in a profession that has jobs that have health care benefits.  Is there any incentive to succeed in Mr. Obama's world? What is your grand prize for going to college, graduate school, and excelling in your job?  The answer: higher taxes and more well fare to those that set the bar as low as it could go.  Now, I'm not gagging on a silver spoon.  My parents were POOR.  My husband and I started out with a collective annual salary of less than $14,000.  But we took out loans and both of us worked two and three jobs to fight our way through school.  Our reward? Higher taxes to benefit the losers of society.  Great plan, Mr. Obama, let's keep rewarding those that are sucking the life blood out of this country.

Separation of church and state

Why was this country established? Why did people come to this country where there was nothing established and where they would risk starvation or dying from exposure to the elements? Why? Because they sought freedom, religious freedom.  They longed to live in a country where they were free to worship whom and how ever they wanted.  The Connecticut legislation just today were forced to delay discussion on this very freedom.  Some in the Connecticut legislature are seeking to have the power to select the Catholic Parish board members for the catholic church.  This is insane! How was this proposal even initiated? Who are the people in Connecticut electing up there? These representatives are not even aware of the US constitution much less our country's history! The opening line of the proposal reads, "With respect to the catholic church," They are even singling out a single religion! Our government is out of control.  People wake up! Get involved and take it back!

Mississippi is number one again!

Once again Mississippi is number one! We rank number one in teenage pregnancy, obesity, and we held the number one spot for illiteracy for many, many years until Louisiana took over for us last year.  We now have the number one senator for pork additives to the country's budget.  Senator Thad Cochran was named on FOX news as having added more pork to the budget than any other senator.  After voting "no" against the stimulus bill, senator Cochran now inserts more earmarks into the budget than anyone else.  How do our representatives live with themselves?  How do they look into their mirrors each morning? Their jobs are temporary appointments. They are employees of their constituents and they should answer to us; however, they do not! I take some of the blame for this myself.  Americans have adopted an apathetic attitude towards politics.  Our legislatures don't know how we feel if we don't tell them!  I encourage everyone that will listen to me to write to their congressmen and to write often.  I often feel extremely alone in my quest.  Many do not take our political landscape seriously and I have to admit that when I write my legislators, I feel that my thoughts are filed into the same black hole as my tax money because I hear nothing in return.  LEGISLATORS, DO YOU HEAR US??????
